This Month at Sarasota BMX

July was a whirlwind — and we mean that in the best way. Our Sarasota BMX community showed up big on the world stage, and we could not be prouder. Caspian Reeves, Austin "Aussie" Lumley, and Connor Beckley represented Team USA at the UCI BMX Racing World Championship Challenge races in Brisbane, Australia, giving it everything they had in training, practice, and racing. The weather didn't always cooperate, but they showed up and SHOWED OUT!

And in the Girls 11 Challenge group, Remy Sessa brought home the W1 plate, defending her World Championship title. We could not be prouder of them all.

Closer to home, we're wrapping up our Summer Race Series soon — and before you know it, it'll be time to trade race jerseys for backpacks as school starts back up!

Rider of the Month: Emily Dagostino

Crushing it at the Track!

June's Rider of the Month was Emily Dagostino. Emily has been a fixture here since she was 13, when she came out with her brother Ben and hopped on a 20-inch Strider — exactly what she needed to get moving and have fun. She's been riding ever since, and now at 19, she's still a USABMX member.

This past year, she took part in our RWA program with friends, which returns this fall with a new structure and sponsors.

Come cheer Emily on — you'll find her flying around the smaller SX track with her friends!

Volunteer of the Month: Steve Rogers

June's Volunteer of the Month was Steve Rogers — you'll find him on the gate, dropping riders into every moto.

Steve spent 38 years as a Deputy with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, including time on SWAT, and even earned a Citation of Heroism for rescuing people from a burning building — on a sprained ankle.

His son Seth raced BMX back in the mid-90s, and Steve got in on the Cruiser Class himself. After retiring, he wanted to keep giving back, so he stepped in as our new gate starter. Next time he drops the gate for you, thank him for his years of service — then and now.

Snapshot(S!!) of the Month

With a month like this, we couldn't choose just one photo. We were glued to our phones and TVs during Worlds and we have to call out @theaussie08 for his awesome photo of our TEAM USA riders over in Brisbane.

And of course — @remyracesbmx — this is one for the highlight reel! We saw you put in the reps and the sweat to make this happen. It was well earned and now well documented too!!

New to the Track?

Welcome to Sarasota BMX, we're so glad you're here! Our community encourages riders of all ages and all skill levels to just get on the track and do their best. It's all about fun!

If you've never done BMX before, you probably have a lot of questions. Stop by the registration office to talk to Erma or one of our wonderful volunteers. Or come Saturday for our Home Roots Program where you can learn to ride and get info on BMX rules as well as our practice and race schedule!
