Welcome to Sarasota BMX—and welcome to our very first blog post. Yep, you’re witnessing history. Again. (We are kind of known for that.)
A new year felt like the right time for a fresh lap around the track: a new website, easier access to information, and now a blog where we can share what’s happening at the track, celebrate our riders, help new families get started, and talk all things BMX.
Whether you’re brand new to the sport, a seasoned racer chasing points, a Strider parent cheering from the sidelines, or someone who’s been part of the Sarasota BMX family for decades—we’re glad you’re here.
Who We Are (And Why We’re Still Here)
Sarasota BMX is more than a race track—it’s a community. Established in 1974, we’re proud to be the oldest continuously running BMX track in the United States, and we’re still going strong because of the people who show up, week after week, to make it happen.
We are a nonprofit organization, run by passionate volunteers and supported by generous sponsors who believe in what BMX offers kids, families, and athletes of all ages. From the gate starters and sign-up crews to coaches, parents, and long-time supporters—this track exists because of you.
Over the years, we’ve hosted local, state, national, and international races, welcomed riders from all over the world, and watched generations of families grow up at the track. That’s something we don’t take lightly—and we wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Why a Blog?
BMX is fast. Information shouldn’t be hard to find.
This blog is our way of keeping everyone connected—new riders, returning families, and longtime racers alike. Here, you’ll find:
Helpful info for new riders and parents
Updates on training programs, races, and events
Shout-outs to riders, volunteers, and sponsors
Tips, reminders, and “what to expect” posts
Celebrations of wins, milestones, and track moments
Think of it as the fence-line conversations we all love—just written down.
What’s Coming Up
If you’re new to Sarasota BMX, our Home Roots: Learn How to Race BMX program runs every Saturday and is a great place to start. Whether your rider is learning balance, building confidence, or refining race skills, Home Roots is designed to meet them where they are and help them grow.
And if you’ve been part of the track family for a while—you already know. No two weekends are ever the same, and that’s part of the magic.
Our Track. Our People. Our Why.
We love our track family. We love what we do. And we’re incredibly grateful for the volunteers and sponsors who help keep the gates dropping and the lights flashing every week.
This blog is just one more way for us to share the heart of Sarasota BMX with you.
Thanks for being here. Thanks for supporting the track. We’ll see you at the gate.
